Nina Hospitality: Leading the Way in Sustainable Living

06 June 2024

Nina Hospitality is excited to share its comprehensive Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability strategy, which is integral to the brand's DNA. Building on the success of its parent company Chinachem Group's recent sustainability report, Nina is committed to creating a more sustainable future for all stakeholders, including guests, employees, the community, and the environment.

Go Green for a Better Future

As a member of Chinachem Group, Nina plays a pivotal role in the groundbreaking carbon reduction initiative known as CCG 3050+. Through an extensive environmental program integrated into every facet of its operations, Nina aims to educate and inspire both guests and team members to embrace sustainable practices.

Nina's commitment to sustainability is evidenced by a number of proactive initiatives, such as:

  • The chiller plant replacement program is a crucial aspect of Nina's sustainability efforts across all hotels. Together with Chinachem Group and CLPe, Nina builds Hong Kong’s first zero-carbon chiller system at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West, that will reduce the electricity consumption by over 50%. The replacement program will also be completed across all five hotels by 2030.
  • With a focus on continual environmental improvement, Nina has obtained ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications for most of its properties, demonstrating a dedication to energy and waste management. Water conservation efforts have also resulted in a 20% reduction in annual water intensity (m3/m2) across its properties.
  • In alignment with the HKSAR Government's EV roadmap, Nina is actively supporting the adoption of electric vehicles by offering EV charging stations at most of its properties. The company is making strides in reducing its environmental footprint by encouraging the use of sustainable transportation options.
  • Participating in the Pilot Food Waste Collection Scheme led by the Environmental Protection Department, Nina has implemented innovative solutions to manage excess food at its properties. By installing food digester machines and partnering with O•PARK, Nina is working to divert tons of food waste from landfills, contributing to a more sustainable future.

Prioritising Employee Well-being and Community Engagement

Recognising the importance of a positive work environment, Nina is committed to providing career development opportunities, promoting diversity and inclusion, and supporting the overall well-being of its employees. We made a pioneering move in the industry by offering our employees a 5-day work week and providing an in-house nutritionist to create healthy menu options at our staff cafeteria.

In addition, Nina actively engages with local communities through various volunteer programs and charitable initiatives, demonstrating a strong commitment to social responsibility. These initiatives include partnerships with organisations such as Y.Elites Association to provide affordable youth hostel spaces at Nina Hotel Tsuen Wan West, ongoing support for Operation Santa Claus since 2015, an annual charity campaign jointly organised by South China Morning Post and Radio Television Hong Kong, and the introduction of Golden Gourmet menus at all buffet restaurants to provide seniors with the chance to enjoy authentic and nutritious meals.

Upholding Our Governance Standards

Nina maintains a strong commitment to transparency and accountability in all aspects of its business. By adhering to the highest governance standards and ensuring ethical and responsible business practices, Nina is dedicated to making a positive impact on the world while supporting the Triple Bottom Line values of Chinachem Group - People, Prosperity, and Planet.

"We believe that every step we take should leave a positive footprint on the planet we call home," said Simon Manning, Managing Director of Nina Hospitality. "Our commitment to sustainability is not just about reducing our environmental impact, but also about creating a positive and inclusive work environment for our employees and supporting the communities we serve."

By embracing this comprehensive ESG and Sustainability strategy, Nina Hospitality is poised to make a significant contribution to creating a more sustainable future for generations to come. Learn more about Nina's ESG commitment by visiting https://www.ninahotelgroup.com/en/esg.
